Sowing and germination

Before sowing, seeds are placed in a cold environment with a temperature of 5-8 ° C for a week in order to awaken their activity. The percentage of seed germination of cacti is not the same: it can be one hundred percent, or only every second or third seed can germinate. Some species sprout on the day of sowing, others - after 3-5 days, most - after 2-3 weeks, and for some types of seedlings you have to wait a month or more. There are friendly shoots, and there are uneven ones. In the vast majority of cacti, seeds germinate at an air temperature of 20-35°C. However, at temperatures below 27°C, the most dangerous enemy of seedlings develops - rot. Therefore, it is more appropriate to consider 27-35°C as the optimal temperature for sowing cacti. In addition to high temperature, it is necessary to create high humidity in the air and substrate.
