the seeds are treated for 5-6 hours in a solution of sulfuric acid (3%). Afterwards, the seeds are washed from acid residues and stratification is carried out in moist, cool conditions, as described above. After such preliminary chemical treatment, seed germination is about 80%. German medlar (also called Caucasian), which is more tolerant of the Russian climate and takes root well in the gardens of southern Russia. Its spreading branches are strewn with long dark green leaves, which in autumn play with a crimson glow, unusually decorating the garden.
