Juttadinteria KOVISIMONTANA - Juttadinteria kovisimontana, Mesembryanthemum, Mesembryanthemum KOVISIMONTANUM.
'Living Stones' seed series.
Juttadinteria is a small genus of perennial succulent plants in the ice plant family (Aizoaceae), comprising 5 accepted species distributed from Namibia to the Cape Province of South Africa. In nature, representatives of the genus occur in desert and dry scrub habitats, on open mineral soils, rocky sites, gravel plains, and locations with pronounced moisture seasonality.
The plants usually develop as low cushion- or clump-forming succulents with shortened shoots and fleshy opposite leaves. The leaves are dense, trihedral, tongue-shaped, or semicircular in cross-section, often glaucous-green, gray-green, or turning slightly reddish under bright light and dry conditions. In some species, the leaf surface may be smooth, punctate, or slightly rough.
The flowers of Juttadinteria are solitary, terminal, diurnal, usually yellow, less commonly with warmer hues. After flowering, dry capsules characteristic of aizoaceous plants are formed: when wetted, they open and gradually release small seeds. Such a mechanism helps the seeds reach a moist surface specifically after rain, when the chance of germination is higher.
Juttadinteria kovisimontana is a perennial succulent that forms clumps. The leaves are fleshy, ascending, attenuated, narrow, and milky greenish. The flowers have about 150-250 stamens.
