Sowing and germination
Desmodium seeds are small, flat, brown, ripen in segmented pods that disintegrate when ripe. Their shell is dense, so the seeds need pre-treatment before sowing. The seeds are kept for 1-2 hours in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate, then soaked for 12 hours in warm water with the addition of a growth stimulator: SUPERthrive, HB-101, Aminozol, Epin or Zircon. Then they are sown in a loose substrate to a depth of about 0.5 cm, moistened with a spray bottle, covered with film or placed in a greenhouse and germinated warmly at 22-26°C in the light. Under favorable conditions, the first shoots appear within 1-2 weeks, the main germination is usually completed within a month, and individual seeds may linger longer. Crops are regularly ventilated.
