Sowing and germination
Calceolaria seeds are very small, almost dusty, and ripen in dry capsules. It is not advisable to soak such seeds, so the substrate itself is disinfected: before sowing, it is spilled with a weak solution of potassium permanganate and dried. Scarification and stratification are not required. Seeds are sown superficially, without embedding - they need light for germination. The crops are moistened from a spray bottle with a solution of a growth stimulator: SUPERthrive, HB-101, Aminozol, Epin or Zircon, covered with a film or placed in a greenhouse and germinated in the light at a temperature of 18-20°C. Under favorable conditions, the first shoots appear within 2 weeks, the main germination is completed in 15-20 days, and individual seeds may linger longer. Crops need regular ventilation; waterlogging and drying out are unacceptable.
