Sowing and germination

For sowing, a mixture of leaf soil, sand and vermiculite (1:1:0.5) is prepared, which is pre-sterilized and moderately moistened. The seeds are sown not densely, to a depth of approximately 5 mm. The sowing container is covered with glass or film and placed in a bright place without direct sunlight. It is necessary to avoid waterlogging and drying out of crops. Shoots appear in 2-3 weeks. The maximum germination period can be more than 45 days. An empty seed coat is brought to the surface and one cylindrical leaf appears, which gradually expands and bends to the soil. After the seedlings appear, the seeding plate must be regularly ventilated, and after 10-15 days the cover glass is removed completely, preventing the substrate from drying out for a long time. In the first year, it is advisable not to disturb the seedlings; they are planted in separate pots a year or two after the appearance of the second leaf.
