Tanquana PRISMATICA - Tanquana prismatica.
Seed series 'Living Stones'.
VERY rare collector's plant!
Tanquana is a genus of miniature succulents in the family Aizoaceae, segregated from the genus Pleiospilos based on leaf shape and seed capsule structure: Tanquana has keelless leaves.
The genus is endemic to the Tanqua Karoo in the Cape Province of South Africa. In nature, the plants inhabit semi-desert quartzite fields where rain is rare, storing moisture from evening fogs in their leaves.
The plant consists of a pair of succulent spotted leaves, rounded or elongated, sitting without a stem. A transverse fissure runs between the leaves, and each season a new pair emerges from it, arranged perpendicular to the old one. The flowers are yellow, diurnal, and open in autumn.
Tanquana prismatica is a very rare miniature succulent from South Africa. It usually grows as a single pair of connate leaves of ovoid or globose shape, 3-4 cm (1.2-1.6 in) long and about 3 cm (1.2 in) wide, on a completely undeveloped stem.
The leaves are green with dark green dots, taking on a bronze tint under bright lighting. Flowering occurs in winter; flowers are yellow, multi-petaled, and open during the day.
