Nolina GUATEMALENSIS - Guatemalan ponytail palm, Guatemalan nolina, Beaucarnea guatemalensis, Bottle tree.
Nolina is an interesting tropical plant from the family Asparagaceae, classified as a succulent. It is excellently suited for indoor conditions. Thanks to its original appearance and simple care, the plant has become popular and beloved among plant growers. In the wild, Nolina grows into a true giant up to 15 m (50 ft) in height.
In home conditions, it grows up to half a meter (20 in), while in a greenhouse or large conservatory it grows up to 5-7 m (16-23 ft). Everything depends on ceiling height. The trunk has an enlargement called a caudex, which creates a resemblance to a bottle - hence the common name Bottle tree. But the ribbed surface and long green leaves growing from the top make the plant look like a coconut palm.
Guatemalan nolina or Guatemalan ponytail is one of the tall species of the plant, whose height in nature can reach 5 m (16 ft). As with other varieties, the trunk of this nolina actively stores moisture and widens with age. In the lower part, the girth of such a specimen sometimes reaches 4 m (13 ft). A characteristic feature is the long ribbon-like leaves, strongly tapering towards the ends.
