Sedum REFLEXUM - Reflexed stonecrop, Jenny's stonecrop, Sedum reflexum, Stonecrop.
Sedum is a genus of low-growing succulents in the stonecrop family (Crassulaceae) with thick, fleshy leaves, succulent stems, and star-shaped inflorescences. The genus includes over 400 annual and perennial species that are easy to care for and spread quickly, living primarily in the Northern Hemisphere and varying widely in forms and sizes. In their natural habitat, most species grow on poor soils of dry rocky or sandy steppes and dunes.
Sedums form beautiful dense clumps or ground-hugging "mats" of green, bluish, or bronze-red foliage. Leaves of evergreen species take on a reddish hue in winter. On the stem, fleshy leaf blades of varied dimensions and arrangements act as water storage reservoirs and aid survival during drought periods. Some species bloom in autumn with star-shaped, typically five-petaled, white, yellow, pink, or purple flowers that change color during the flowering period.
Sedum reflexum is a herbaceous perennial evergreen plant forming mats up to 15 cm (5.9 in) tall. Roots are horizontal and branching, hardening with age. Stems are straight, ascending, creeping at the base. Vegetative shoots are shortened, 2-10 cm (0.8-3.9 in) long with densely arranged elongated leaves 10-25 mm (0.4-1.0 in) long, with a short spur at the base, acute. The leaves are bluish-glaucous. Peduncles are up to 30 cm (11.8 in) tall, slightly curved. The inflorescence is terminal, corymbose, composed of several cymes or several branches in the axils of the upper leaves. Petals are yellow, linear-lanceolate, keeled on the outside. Stamens are shorter than petals, yellow. It blooms in June-July.
