Sowing and germination

Freshly collected seeds do not germinate; they need a rest period of several months; germination persists for 2-3 years or more. It is better to sow them in the spring in bowls 5-8 cm high or in boxes filled with washed river sand with the addition of peat. The seeds are not buried, but only sprinkled with a little sand or ceramic chips. The optimal temperature for germination is 20-23°C; at higher temperatures it goes worse. The substrate must be kept moist all the time; seedlings usually appear 3-8 days after sowing. When the first leaves form, the seedlings dive into the loose sandy soil.
