Sowing and germination
The seeds are large, flat, 20–25 mm long, enclosed in single-seeded leathery beans and have a dense, very hard shell. Scarification significantly increases the germination and swelling of seeds to 50–80%; without disturbing the top layer, only 20–30% germinate. The outer shell is carefully sawed or scratched with a hard tool so as not to damage the seed, after which it is soaked for 12–24 hours in warm water with the addition of stimulants (SUPERthrive, HB-101, Aminozol, Epin or Zircon). Sowing is done in a loose, breathable substrate of sand and leaf soil or coconut fiber with a depth of 0.5–1 cm, moistened with a spray bottle and placed in a greenhouse or covered with a film or lid, and germinated in the light, but not in the sun at a temperature of 22–30°C. It is necessary to avoid waterlogging and drying out of crops.
