Sowing and germination

Soak the seeds in warm water for 2-4 hours while keeping the water warm. Use a clean, loose, well-aerated sowing mix made from about 50% seed-starting mix or coconut coir and 50% drainage amendments such as perlite, vermiculite or coarse sand. Provide drainage, lay the seeds flat, and cover them with 0.5-1 cm of the mix. Moisten the substrate so it is lightly damp, cover the container, and keep it at 27-35°C; 31-33°C is ideal. Vent the covered container twice daily for about 30 minutes and avoid waterlogging or drying out. Move seedlings to bright light after emergence. The first seeds may sprout in 3-4 days, most emerge within 1-2 weeks, and Thai Socotranum types may take up to one month.
