Turbinicarpus SCHMIEDICKEANUS 'GRACILIS' - Slender Schmiedicke's turbinicarpus, Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus 'Gracilis'.
Turbinicarpus is a genus of dwarf cacti in the family Cactaceae, comprising about 30 species native mainly to central and northeastern Mexico. These cacti are renowned for their slow growth, unusual appearance, and remarkable resilience.
The plants are most often solitary, globose or short-cylindrical, with mamilliform tubercles instead of ribs. The areoles are small, and the spines vary in shape and arrangement, often being decorative. The flowers are large relative to the size of the plant, situated at the apex. The fruits are small and concealed within the stem tissues. The seeds are small and black.
Slender Schmiedicke's turbinicarpus is a subspecies with elongated, graceful shoots up to 4 cm (1.6 in) tall and about 2 cm (0.8 in) in diameter. The surface is covered with spirally arranged tubercles. The areoles are small, with whitish slender spines pressed tightly to the body. The spines are thin, curved, and often slightly twisted.
It blooms in spring. The flowers are white with a pink central midstripe, up to 2.5-3 cm (1.0-1.2 in) in diameter. The fruits are green, tiny, with small rounded black seeds. Flowering is observed even in young plants.
