Sowing and germination
The seeds of the knife-shaped acacia are hard, dark, with a dense waterproof shell, typical of many legumes. Before sowing, they need a treatment to help water penetrate into the seed. Careful scarification is appropriate: the shell is slightly filed or scratched on the opposite side of the embryo without damaging the inside of the seed. After scarification, the seeds are kept for 1-2 hours in a 1% solution of potassium permanganate, then filled with hot water, removed from the boil, and left to swell for 12-24 hours as the water cools. As it cools, a growth stimulator is added to the water: balanced plant vitamin supplement, natural plant growth stimulant, amino-acid plant fertilizer, anti-stress adaptogen solution or root development stimulant. The swollen seeds are sown in a sterile loose substrate with the addition of sand or perlite, deepening to about 0.5-1 cm.
