Sowing and germination

The seeds are very small, about 0.8-1 mm, round, dark brown, ripen in small dry capsules. Before sowing, they do not require stratification or scarification; they are pre-soaked for 1-1.5 days in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Then they are sown superficially without deepening into a well-steamed loose mixture of equal parts of coarse river sand, peat and turf soil, adding a small amount of leaf soil is allowed. The mixture is moistened with a spray bottle, placed in a greenhouse or covered with glass or film, germination is carried out at a temperature of 24-30°C in diffused light, with daily ventilation. Shoots appear in 7-20 days, the minimum period is about 5 days. Within 1-2 weeks, as a rule, all viable seeds germinate. In some cases, germination may exceed 30 days.
