Sowing and germination

Ceratonia seeds are hard, shiny, with a very dense waterproof shell; they remain viable for many years. Before sowing, scarification is required: the shell is carefully sawed off on the side, away from the scar. After this, the seeds are soaked for 24-48 hours in warm water or in a solution of a seed-safe growth stimulant according to its label directions, seed-safe growth stimulant, seed-safe growth stimulant, seed-safe growth stimulant or seed-safe growth stimulant until noticeable swelling. No stratification required. The swollen seeds are sown in separate deep pots with a sterile loose substrate of peat and sand, to a depth of 1.5-2 cm. The sowing is moistened with a spray bottle, covered with a transparent lid or placed in a greenhouse and germinated at a temperature of 22-28°C. Shoots appear in 2-4 weeks; unswollen seeds may linger longer. The crops are ventilated daily and condensation is removed. Seedlings are immediately grown in a deep container and transplanted by transfer, without disturbing the tap root.
