Penthorum SEDOIDES - Ditch stonecrop, Penthorum sedoides, Penthorum.
An attractive novelty for aquarists!
Penthorum is an aquarium plant that grows well in both soft and hard water. It is an undemanding species regarding growing conditions. It can be confidently recommended even to beginning aquarists. Lighting of 0.5 W/l is more than sufficient for it. It responds positively to the addition of liquid fertilizers into the water.
Ditch stonecrop grows under natural conditions along the shores of rivers and lakes in North America. The plant can be found growing both emergent in air and partially submerged in water. The plant is relatively new and cannot yet be frequently found in collections of aquarists. Initially, Americans began using ditch stonecrop in aquaristics, while in Europe until recently it was used only in pond landscaping. Keeping this plant is well within the capabilities of even novice aquarists.
Ditch stonecrop has an erect stem on which broad lanceolate light-green leaves are arranged alternately. In its lower part, the stem is smooth, while the branches are covered with small hairs. The leaf blade is wavy along the margin with small serrations. It should be noted that in aquarium conditions the plant can take on different shapes and change color intensity - all depending on its maintenance conditions. In an aquarium, bush height can reach 80 cm (31 in). The growth rate is low.
