Sowing and germination

Haageocereus reproduces by seeds and side shoots, if they are formed. The seeds are small. The seed method is used to obtain plants with a natural growth form and is well suited for collection cultivation. Sowing is carried out in the spring or at the beginning of the warm season, or year-round if it is possible to provide bright lighting, lower heating and stable heat. Before sowing, the substrate can be moistened with a weak solution of potassium permanganate or a biofungicide with the addition of a growth stimulator. For sowing, a light sterile substrate with a predominance of mineral components, perlite and fine washed sand is used. The seeds are distributed over the surface of the moistened substrate and pressed lightly, without deep embedding. On top they can be sprinkled with the thinnest layer of sifted sand or left almost superficially.
