Sowing and germination

Sophora can be grown from seeds or apical cuttings in spring and autumn. Sowing of seeds is carried out in March-April in seed soil, in a closed, unheated room. Dark or bright yellow seeds germinate best after processing and soaking in water for several hours. You can immerse them in boiling water for a few minutes to soften the hard shell, and then soak them in the same water removed from the boil for several hours to allow the seeds to absorb the water. Grown seedlings are transplanted into pots one at a time. Then they are successively replanted into larger containers, and after 2-3 years they are planted in open ground. Young kawaii are quite tender and not resistant to frost, so cuttings or seedlings should be planted when they reach 30 cm. When grown from seeds, flowering may take several years, depending on the species.
