Sowing and germination
Sowing Ariocarpus, as a rule, does not require preliminary preparation, although some experts recommend cold stratification of seeds for 2–3 weeks at a temperature of 5–6°C. The seeds are mixed with wet sand (3:1) and kept in the refrigerator without a lid. For sowing, a sterilized substrate is used: leaf soil and sand or peat and sand (1:1), a top layer of coarse sand or brick chips. Sowing is carried out superficially, without dusting. The containers are covered with glass or film and kept at a temperature of 20–25°C, decreasing at night to 18–20°C. The first shoots appear after 7 days, mass germination - within 10 days. Individual seeds can take up to a year to germinate. Seedlings form tubercles after 3–4 months. At the first signs of mold, the substrate is dried or stripped.
