Sowing and germination
Withania seeds are small, flat, disc-shaped, germination remains for about two years and noticeably reduces it by the third year. Before sowing, they are soaked for 12-24 hours in a weak solution of potassium permanganate or in a solution of a growth stimulator: SUPERthrive, HB-101, Aminozol, Epin or Zircon. Scarification and stratification are not required. Sowing is carried out in March or April, in a sterile loose substrate of peat and sand, to a depth of about 0.5 cm. The sowing is moistened with a spray bottle, covered with a transparent lid or placed in a greenhouse and germinated in the light at a temperature of 20-25°C. Shoots appear after 1-3 weeks, unevenly. Crops are ventilated daily, condensation is removed, waterlogging is unacceptable: seedlings are easily killed by blackleg.
