It requires constant intensive illumination. Windows of southern exposure are best suited. On the north side, supplemental lighting is needed almost constantly. Lighting can be arranged with fluorescent lamps or special grow lights with a pink spectrum. Under home conditions, it develops best at temperatures from 23 to 25 °C (73-77 °F). During summer heat, the room must be ventilated as frequently as possible. If possible, the pot with the flower is best moved out into the garden. Fluctuations between day and night temperatures will only benefit the plant. In winter, Brugmansia is kept at 10-15 °C (50-59 °F). When such conditions are provided, it enters a dormancy period. If lowering the temperature is not possible, the plant must be provided with supplemental lighting.
It requires regular misting, sometimes several times a day. The humidity level should not drop below 60%. The water must be warm and soft. It needs generous watering. During the period of intensive growth, it has to be watered up to 2 times a day. The soil in the pot should never dry out. With the start of flowering, the growth of leaf mass slows down, so watering can be slightly reduced. In the winter period, upon the arrival of dormancy, it is reduced to a minimum. At the same time, complete drying out of the substrate must not be allowed. If the plant continues to grow actively during the winter period as well, the previous watering intensity is maintained.
Soil for growing Brugmansia is prepared from equal parts well-rotted leaf mold, peat, humus, and perlite. Two parts sod soil are added to them. You can also use a ready-made universal seedling substrate. During the period of intensive growth, it is fed with nitrogen-rich fertilizers; at the time of bud setting, with phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. Mineral complexes are recommended to alternate with organic fertilizers. On average, fertilizers are applied once a week. In winter during the dormancy period, feedings cease. The pot for the plant should be wide and deep.
Rapidly regrowing Brugmansia must be constantly shaped. In spring, all its shoots are shortened by approximately one third. Moderation is very important here. Too severe pruning will significantly reduce the abundance of flowering, since flower buds are already set on the branches. Throughout the summer, part of the side shoots is periodically removed on the bushes. A large number of shoots reduces the number of flowers.
