Sowing and germination

Before sowing, seeds are soaked in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 5-10 minutes. Then they are sown in a bowl with successively covered with a 7-10 mm layer of drainage, a 2 cm layer of loose leaf soil and a 1.5-2 cm layer of washed river sand. Seeds up to 3 mm in size, especially small, dusty ones are not sprinkled with sand, and are sown directly on the surface. Larger seeds can be sown in furrows no more than 3 mm deep. They are moistened with a spray bottle, covered with film and germinated in the light at a temperature of about 24-28°C during the day, 20-24°C at night. The seedlings need ventilation. It is necessary to avoid waterlogging and drying out of crops. Germination time can range from several days to several months. After germination, the seeds are seedlings with two well-defined cotyledons, characteristic of all cacti. All seedlings, without exception, are very demanding of light.
